This
series of activity sheets has been written by authors with a wealth of experience in Modern Language teaching. These titles
are a direct response to our market research and contain the topics most requested by our respondents.
The
context of the first twelve sheets is "Work", with the remaining twelve under the heading of "Holidays".
Each of these topics is sub-divided into "Foundation", "Intermediate" and "Higher" levels as
a guide to their complexity. This system will allow the teacher to use the sheets as whole-class activities or for students
to study individually, and can easily be used to introduce differentiation into your classroom activities. In
either case, our recommendation is for the teacher to provide a separate exercise book or file paper for students’ work.
The nature of the subject matter requires at least one year’s study of the foreign language although an effort
has been made to avoid complex grammatical structures and vocabulary. Nevertheless, students should also have the opportunity
to refer to a dictionary, and a number of the activities are geared towards students with internet access.
The content of these activity sheets is directly pertinent to the GCSE topics "Work and Education" and "Leisure:
Holidays" and we share the aims of the GCSE syllabus to:
• develop understanding of the language in a
variety of contexts
• develop knowledge of the specific language and general language learning skills
• develop the ability to communicate effectively
in the language
• develop
awareness and understanding of countries and communities where the language is spoken.
